Sara's Place: August 2005

Hello,

Well, I've been here a week and a half now. Had a bit of a poor start as I was three days late, but these things happen! (Problem with the plane from Edinburgh).

I'm currently on the VSO training course and I will be for the next couple of weeks, we are doing a lot a language classes, I'm learning Wollof - but I'm not doing that well at present!

I've moved into my house, I'm living by myself, with another VSO volunteer as my neighbour. The house is grand (by that I mean fine not luxurious!), but the stray cats outside are starting to irritate me, they apparently feel my porch is a nice resting place, but they are very noisy and are always fighting, they look quite manky too!

It's very hot here, arrived at one of the hottest times of year, and the time when all the mosquito's are about, my feet are covered in bites, which are very itchy, scratching them really does make them worse though! My foot has sort of swollen up as well with the bites, which isn't the best but I don't think my aliments are that interesting to anyone else.

I'm just settling into things at the moment, trying to get used to power cuts, there isn't very much electricity at the moment, which is generally ok but I always land in the massive puddles in the street and I think my bathroom my be full of wee beasties but I haven't see it in proper light for a few days now (I think I need to eat more carrots to help my night vision).

All the people I've met so far are great, which is nice.

I think I will leave it at that for just now, it took me a while to remember my user name and password for adding stuff to this so I'm running out of time on the internet now.
