Sara's Place

Sara's Place

Happy New Year Peoples,

I hope all is well with everyone. Just found out it's been quite a while since my last blog mainly cos I had most of my family visiting for christmas and new year so I have been very busy trying to show them around. Although I'm sure they'll agree that I made things a little more stressful than necessary by refusing to accept tourist prices for the first week and attempting to bargin with taxi drivers who are supposed to be on set tourist prices (which by the way are about ten times the usual tariffs so it really surprised me).

Anyway a very good festive period was had here and I almost remembered to take my cards and stuff down on time, but I sort of forgot until this morning so hopefully I won't get too much bad luck!

Had a bit of bad luck recently in that my laptop was stolen, quite disappointing, but the police are looking in to it - I have high hopes in their efficency! And the time spent at the police station is an experience anyway!

Its winter here as well, so its getting cold now. I even had goose bumps the other day, although granted that is because i have to have cold showers before the sun comes up and then walk for about 2 seconds outside, its not easy! but it still reaches around 30 degrees or so during the day (i don't really know how hot it gets i'm just guessing here!) so its not too difficult. And I can still laze on the beach and swim in the sea, when I manage to get a free minute from work that is!

Next week is a big Muslim festival so we getting a few days holiday (I constantly asking what days to avoid any repeats of the last public holiday!) and there will be the slaughter of a sheep next door then we get to eat it, so that'll be nice! I'm going shopping tomorrow to try and buy some fabric to make gambian clothes but i think I've left it too late because the tailors are all very busy now, everybody needs a new outfit for the festival. Anyway at the very least I can buy some new shoes and the market in Banjul should be fun because its super busy and prices are low for the festival! woohoo.

That's all for now folks
